As you renew your national AIChE membership this year, be sure to consider joining your local section as well. Your $20 local membership will support important activities serving the local chemical engineering community. These include:

• Five regular meetings/seminars featuring distinguished speakers presenting their views on topics of special interest.
• Two continuing education classes offered to members at reduced cost.
• Recognition of local members with special awards for professional accomplishment. This past year we recognized Laura Dietsche as Chemical Engineer of the Year, Mike Trippeer as Young Chemical Engineer of the Year, and Hank Kohlbrand, as winner of the Noland Poffenberger Award for outstanding vision and leadership within the chemical engineering profession.
• A program of science and engineering presentations / demos for students in the local middle schools.
• A $2000 scholarship awarded to a local graduating high  school senior pursuing a college degree in chemical engineering ($500/yr for 4 years)
• Two Scholarships for high school age students to attend the Michigan Tech Summer Youth Program.
• A Spring Banquet held at the conclusion of the programming year.

Don’t miss the kick-off meeting/mixer to be held Wednesday, September 15 at Oscar’s Cornerstone Pub in downtown Midland (140 E. Main St., 989-837-8680). Come by starting at 5:00 p.m. for free sandwiches, soft drinks, and a complimentary beer or wine. Everyone is welcome. This is an informal mixer designed to encourage folks to meet others in the profession and learn more about plans for the new programming season.
